How to write a sales / account executive resume

A strong sales resume opens with a summary that names your segment (SMB / mid-market / enterprise), your ACV range, and your quota attainment for the last two years, then leads every bullet with the number (e.g. "Closed $2.4M in new logo ARR, 118% of quota"). Sales resumes are read in two seconds — quota attainment, deal size, and named customers are the only things that survive the first scan.

What recruiters and ATS look for in a sales / account executive resume

Sales resumes are graded on numbers. Open with the three things a recruiter wants — segment, ACV range, quota attainment — because that is the resume version of "tell me your numbers." Each bullet should lead with the figure: "Closed $2.4M in new logo ARR (118% of quota)" beats "Achieved over quota." Named customers, where you are allowed to disclose them, are gold; otherwise use industry plus company size.

Section order: Summary (with your numbers) → Experience → Skills (tools + methodologies) → Education.

Sales / Account Executive resume FAQ

What should a sales resume summary include?

Three numbers: your segment (SMB, mid-market, enterprise), your typical ACV, and your quota attainment for the last two years. That trio tells a hiring manager whether to keep reading in the first two seconds.

Should I name customers on my sales resume?

Name them where your agreements allow it — logos are powerful proof. Where you cannot disclose, substitute industry and company size ('a $2B logistics enterprise') so the deal still reads as credible.

What sales methodologies should I list?

List the ones you actually sell with — MEDDIC, MEDDPICC, Challenger, or Sandler — plus your tooling (Salesforce, Outreach, Gong). Methodologies are common ATS filter terms for enterprise sales roles.
